City Markets

The city markets was a scene I spent a lot of time on. I made just about every prop and asset in the entire city, totaling about 300+ individual assets. I really made the scene because I wanted to test out a couple of node groups I had created that I ended up getting obsessed with and spent weeks creating.

The primary tool I used was a sticker generator that used geometry nodes to generate stickers on any object. The node group also worked with graffiti and just general grunge decals, which allowed me to create detailed walls and props with a few clicks. I've since updated sticker tool and turned it into a shader that allows me to paint on any object and have layers and layers of stickers on top of each other. One of the other tools I used was a simple trash and garbage generator. basically I could add a layer of papers, plastic, and cigarettes onto any object quickly and either randomly decide how they were generated, or manually paint where I wanted bits of trash to appear.

I also wanted to test out a few lighting tricks.
I used emission shaders mixed with transparency to essentially add god rays throughout the scene where ever I felt was artistically appropriate. And, not really a trick, but I really just wanted to make a scene using translucent shaders. The tarps in particular I think look really nice and are mainly created using mixes of noise textures, and translucent shaders.

I created over 150 stickers for the scene, 300+ individual props and about 20 individual buildings. Overall I am very happy with the scene, especially in stills. In motion most of the scene looks very appealing except for a brief period towards the end of the animation where the scaling looks a little bit small. I would like to update a few of the animations as well. Some of them are very fitting but others feel a little stiff.
